FUEL - 31.5 x 15 inch - Reduction Linocut
(2025)
Been quite a while since my last update. Work has engulfed most of life as it does with most people. I do find some time on what days I do get off to continue making linocuts though.
FUEL is a linocut based off of a sign from Pittsburgh, PA of "Fuel and Fuddle". This restaurant was located in the area of the University of Pittsburgh and was open from 1996 until 2023 (if I remember correctly).
These are the first couple stages of the reduction process. Printing lightest to darkest and continually carving away the area that represented the last color printed.

I prefer not to spot print, but on pieces this large it is sometimes more economical to just print smaller areas and not cover the entire block in ink for areas that it does not need to go over. Both the 2nd and 3rd images in this progression show some of the spot printed areas.
There is a point in this process where you begin the question whether it's going to turn out or not. I have no question that I've mentioned this in previous posts, but it's very true with almost every piece and this one is no different.
